The Kitchen Remodeling Process

Knowing the process of our kitchen remodeling projects will help you feel more comfortable about our services and the project itself. The time it takes to complete your kitchen remodel will primarily vary on two factors: the size of the kitchen and the extent of the remodel. Based on these factors, we can provide an accurate estimate time-wise.

We have outlined the overview of our kitchen remodeling process. Depending on your remodel, this process may look different. You are welcome to ask how your kitchen remodel may differ from the general process during the free estimate phase.

Phase 1: Preparation

At the beginning of the kitchen remodeling process, our team is getting to know you. During your free estimate and follow-up meetings, we ask you questions regarding ideas, preferences, and concepts for your kitchen. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions regarding your remodeling project. We can always provide you with ideas based on past projects or what is popular in the industry as of now. The final portions of this phase include our designers finalizing a concept for your kitchen, you singing off on the design, and our team obtaining permits for the project.

Phase 2: Demolition

The first day of the kitchen remodeling project will include demolishing the old kitchen. This involves removing the cabinets, flooring, countertops, tile, appliances, and anything else that is being updated. We also start removing walls or changing the layout in this phase. Not all kitchen remodels see a layout change, so this phase may look different for your project.

Phase 3: Construction

After all the old is gone, we begin installing the new. We always start with new electrical and plumbing unless those features have been recently updated. Afterward, we can start installing drywall, countertops, cabinets, and flooring. The backsplash is applied after the countertops and cabinets are hung. We also paint the drywall before any of the other items are installed to prevent any accidents. The final things to install include the appliances. This phase does include a handful of inspections. We ensure you that our team’s work will pass inspections.

Phase 4: Completion

Finally, the last phase is the final inspection with the city inspector and the walkthrough with you! We will take you through your new kitchen, where you can see your investment pay off. Afterward, you can start enjoying your new kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does kitchen remodeling take?

Kitchen remodeling projects vary depending on the scope of the project. However, the average kitchen remodel takes anywhere from six to 12 weeks. Our team will provide you with a more accurate estimate once we know more about the remodel you’re looking to complete.

Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen?

It depends on the type of remodel you want for your kitchen. Kitchen remodeling projects that require complete rebuilds, usually consisting of moving walls, plumbing, and electrical, will require a building permit.

If your kitchen remodel is strictly cosmetic or doesn’t involve changes to plumbing or electrical, you shouldn’t need a permit. Of course, we’ll evaluate the scope of your project and obtain permits as necessary.

How can I prepare for my kitchen remodel?

Before contacting our team, it’s beneficial to have an idea of the style and design you want for your kitchen. Create a Pinterest board or collect images of other kitchens you like on your phone, including any features you want. We also recommend making a list of items or features that are must-haves and some that you can live without. Above all, make sure you have a budget pinned down. You’re welcome to adjust it after speaking with us and learning more, but make sure you have one to start with.

When it comes to preparing before the first day of the remodel, we’ll ask you to remove everything from the room. You should also determine what you’ll do with pets and children during construction. In addition, make a plan for meals. Will you create a temporary cooking/eating area elsewhere? Do you plan to eat out during the course of the project? Answering these questions will make your life easier throughout the process.

Will you help me select materials for my kitchen remodel?

Yes! Our remodelers and designers work with you to determine what materials are best suited for the design and style you want while also fitting into your budget. We are also open to material requests as many clients approach us with decisions already.
